The 14-year-old had also acted in the Amitabh Bachchan film Paa, where she was a friend of the progeria-afflicted character played by the superstar.

As Bollywood reacted with shock, Bachchan tweeted: “Just reading that Taruni Sachdev the girl child artist in Paa, has perished in Nepal plane crash… please God may this not be true.”

Taruni was on a visit to Muktinath in Jomsom, 200km northwest of Kathmandu, with her mother Geeta, who also died in the crash.

Yesterday’s list of the victims from India did mention the names T. Sachdev and G. Sachdev, but it was only today that Bollywood found out it had lost one of its own.

Abhishek Bachchan, who played dad to his real-life father in Paa, wrote: “SHOCKED and very saddened to hear about the Nepal plane crash. Lost 1 of my cutest co-stars. Little Taruni Sachdev from PAA. Speechless….”

Taruni, a familiar face in the advertising world, had dozens of commercials to her credit, including the one for Rasna, a soft drink brand she popularised with the words “I love you Rasna.” It prompted many to call her the Rasna girl.

She also acted in the Malayalam films Vellinakshatram and Sathyam and was a participant on the Shah Rukh Khan-hosted game show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?

Taruni’s father Harish has reached Kathmandu.

Among the Indians who died, eight were from Mumbai. They included Kamal Arora, 53, his wife Menaka, 50, and 19-year-old son Shiv. Kamal ran an imitation jewellery manufacturing business. Shiv had joined his parents for a trek.The other victims from the city were brothers Mukesh and Ramesh Handa, and a brahmachari who had been living in the Iskcon temple in Juhu for the past few years.

No details were available on the Handa brothers except that they were young and lived in Bandra.

Tirumala Kadambhi Srikanth, a 36-year-old Infosys employee from Chennai who was admitted to hospital yesterday with severe injuries, has been put on ventilator.

Srikanth’s wife Latha, 30, died in the crash. The couple’s daughters, Srivardhini, 9, and Sreepada, 6, are in the same hospital as their father. They are out of danger.

“It took a lot of people to convince me that I could do this. I love performing in front of a live audience. IIFA and I go a long way back, but we were never able to come together. So I am very excited that now I am being able to do something,” Shahid, who hosted this year’s Filmfare with Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan, told reporters here Monday.

Bipasha Basu, who will attend the event, said, “Right from the time when I was a debutant and till now, it’s been almost 10 years and I think I had a wonderful experience with IIFA. I will be performing at the event as well.”

“For the first time, we have a choreographer like Prabhu Deva. I told him some time back that I am not a trained dancer, but I am energetic. So, hopefully, he will manage to make me dance well,” she added.

Bipasha was speaking at an IIFA event held here to announce the performance line-up at the forthcoming event.

Besides Bipasha, Shahid, Mika Singh, Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva himself will entertain the audience with their performances.

“Ishaqzaade” is also said to be one of the biggest box office start for a newcomer film.

Though the film has received mixed reviews, Bollywood celebrities are all praises for the director as well as the lead pair.

The action seems another impact of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan‘s debut TV show “Satyamev Jayate”, as the action came a day after the superstar met state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Gehlot Wednesday assured Aamir Khan, whose episode on female foeticide has created a storm, that he will take up the issue of setting up a fast track court with the state chief justice.

“Chief minister had met state officials to know more about the extent of the problem immediately after the show was aired Sunday. As per the instructions issued directly from him, we have started cracking down on faulty sonography centres where illegal sex determination tests were conducted,” a senior medical and health department officer told IANS, preferring anonymity.

He added that these centres were found violating the provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal and Diagnostic (PCPNDT) Act, 1994.

“Every centre is required to submit records of the sonography tests every month to the district’s chief medical and health officer under the PCPNDT Act. However, these centres were found violating this law,” the officer said.

“Licenses of six sonography centres have been cancelled while notices seeking an explanation have been issued to 24 other centres. If these centres do not send a satisfactory explanation, their licenses also will be cancelled,” said the officer.

In his show, Aamir Khan highlighted the story of a sting operation done seven years back by two Jaipur journalists to expose increasing female foeticide cases in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The sting by Meena Sharma and Shripal Shakhawat had covered 140 doctors involved in sex determination tests and abortions. None of the doctors has been penalized.

Aamir Khan said in his show that he would appeal to the Rajasthan chief minister to get the cases against the erring doctors clubbed together and try them in a fast track court.

He also urged the viewers to support his signature campaign.

According to Census 2011, Rajasthan now has 883 girls between the ages of 0-6 for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909.

Alarmed over the skewed sex ratio, the state government recently announced steps to curb pre-natal sex determination tests at ultrasound clinics.

Hashmi said he plays the role of a porn filmmaker called Joginder Parmar.

“I play the role of Joginder Parmar. He is a very rooted and real character. He is extremely interesting and you would all love him. It is very different from what I played in ‘Kalyug’,” he said at the music launch here.

Hashmi’s look is very different in the movie.

“There were a lot of look tests after the character sketch was given. Eventually this one emerged. I had to put on weight for this character. I had to go two shades darker. In the morning, we used to prepare for this, before the shoot.”

“I had to even work on my teeth and put things on it to get the look. I dont know how many actors would want to look grotesque on screen. When Dibankar told me, he thought I would say no, but I didn’t. I think its a great opportunity,” he added.

“I gained nine-10 kilos. I had to start changing my diet and eat only fast food and pasta on the set.”

The cast includes Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Talking about the film, Hashmi said: “Its a very normal film. Its relevant and the story is very interesting. I am sure this film will be a landmark film for us. Its an interesting film. We have maintained a commercial outlook with the music of this film.”

After back to back hits like “Jannat 2″ and “Murder 2″, Hashmi seems to be one of the biggest stars of Bollywood today.

Asked whom he wants to dedicate this success to, he said: “I have always said that when a film does well, its because of the team. The entire team contributes to it. It is a synergy of talent. Even if ‘Shanghai’ works, its a team effort. A lot of work goes into a film and its a lot of departments who work together.”

The hugely awaited film ‘Anna Bond’, starring the Kannada film industry’s superstar Puneet Raj Kumar and directed by Suri, was expected to be a continuation of success story of their previous film ‘Jackie’.

Unfortunately ‘Anna Bond’, which has shades of ‘Jackie’, does not stand up to the pre-release hype and expectations. The film is not even a ‘paisa vasool’ masala entertainer. It is a boring action movie.

Suri has not only directed the film, he has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues for the film.

The major drawback is weak screenplay. Suri, known for his interesting narration, fumbles heavily on this score. Dialogues bring in some laughter in the first half.

The proceedings in the first half are tolerable, but after that it is a combination of dragging elements and illogical sequences. It lacks continuity.

Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, who plays a baddie in the film, doesn’t impress. His dubbing is not so good and his performance is ordinary.

The highlights are extraordinary action and song sequences and Puneet Raj Kumar’s dialogue delivery. Puneet is brilliant in action sequences and the last two action scenes are mind blowing.

Even the film’s heroine Priyamani, who lost weight for this role, looks stunning in dance sequences. But tedious narration and a weak screenplay overshadow these positive factors. The entire second half is so confusing that it will disappoint viewers.

In the film, Bond Ravi meets Meera while she is shooting real life incidents for a documentary.

Bond Ravi and colleague Chapathi Babu are on a secret mission. They are searching for criminals and want to punish them.

Meanwhile, Bond Ravi falls in love with Meera and wants to marry her, but he is afraid of expressing his feelings. Meera’s father’s associates who are trying to track down an international drug peddler, Charlie, take him.

But Charlie has come to India on another mission. He wants to get the custody of his daughter who has been adopted by Meera’s father. In a fit of rage and confusion, Charlie kills his real daughter and then attempts to kill Meera and her father. How Bond Ravi saves Meera and kills Charlie forms the rest of the story.

Puneet pleases his fans with an overdose of action. His extraordinary dance movements and dialogue delivery are another plus factor.

Rangayana Raghu is exceptional as usual, but Nidhi Subbaiah has been wasted. Jackie is a big let down. All the other artists are just okay.

Hari Krishna has managed to deliver a few likeable tunes like ‘Thumba Nodbedi’ and ‘Boni Aagadha Hrudaya’, but the remix number ‘Kaanadhanthe Maayavaadano’ is disappointing.

However H.K.’s background score is top class. Sathya Hegde has done a fantastic job behind the camera. The film is good in the technical department.

‘Anna Bond’ could have been a treat for fans, but it just ends up as an ordinary commercial venture with a weak script. Puneet salvages the film to an extent.

‘Achala Sachdev had broken her left leg after a fall in her house six months ago. She also suffered a brain infarction in which she lost her vision and movements of upper and lower limbs,’ added Shah.

Her funeral will take place Tuesday evening at Vaikunth here after her son Jyotin arrives from the US.

The actress, known for her role in 1965 film ‘Waqt’, where she was part of the legendary song ‘Ae meri zohra jabeen’, underwent surgery 15 days ago and since then was being fed liquids.

‘She underwent a surgery 15 days ago. We had put a feeding tube into her stomach so that she could be given liquid feeds and proteins directly,’ said Shah.

Achala Sachdev’s last important release was Karan Johar’s 2001 mega hit ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, in which she played Amitabh Bachchan‘s screen mother.

The actress, who had acted in over 250 films, has donated her fortune to various organisations.

‘She has donated all her money to various organizations. She donated Rs.20 lakh and gifted her sprawling 2 BHK apartment in Pune Camp to Janaseva Foundation,’ said the doctor.

She has been part of the industry for more than seven decades.
